The Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability (WES) was designed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and implemented in collaboration with partner organizations across Tunisia from 2012-2018. WES was funded by the United States Department of State.
Tunisia
Chema Gargouri, Country Director
Chéma is the CEO of the Center for Applied Training (CAT), a consulting services firm specializing in international programs and projects and meeting planning and management for non-profit organizations, and founder and President of the Tunisian Association for Management and Social Stability (TAMSS) a community development nonprofit based in Tunis. Chéma has extensive experience and expertise in project/program design and management, and capacity building within NGOs and professional organizations. Over the last 16 years, she managed international development programs worth over $15M aimed at enhancing youth entrepreneurship, women economic participation, sustainable tourism, and government decentralization. Since 2011, Chéma has worked closely with the Institute of International Education (IIE) on programs implemented in the Middle East North African (MENA) region, including in her current role as Country Director for the Women Enterprise for Sustainability (WES) program. Chéma began her career as Project Officer at the International Executive Service Corps. She was a 2009 Summer Fellow of the Center on Democracy Development and Rule of Law at Stanford University and recently awarded with the Outstanding Woman in Leadership Achievement award by the World Women Leadership Congress & Award (WWLCA).

Houssem Eddine Bahi, WES Tunisia Program Manager, Tunisia
Houssem is WES Tunisia Program Manager and founder and CEO of El Béhi & Co. Houssem is an activist in Tunisian civil society, a member of Rotaract, Boy Scouts of Tunisia and the Vice President of the Tunisian Association for Common Lawyers (TACL). Furthermore, Houssem is an artist and founder of ARABIKANA, a music group that plays traditional Arabic music. Before joining WES, Houssem was the Project Coordinator at the Arab Institute for Business Leaders (IACE) at the Center for Entrepreneurship and Executive Development. He also served as a Program Coordinator at the Natural Resources Governance Institute. Houssem has represented Tunisia in various international competitions, such as the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Arbitration Competition in South Africa in 2013, the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) meeting in Milan in 2015, and the Creative Business Cup in Denmark in 2015. Houssem holds a Masters in Common Law, specializing in the American banking system. Houssem speaks fluent English, French and Arabic, is proficient in written and spoken Chinese, and is currently studying Hebrew.

Ahmed Moslah, Knowlegde Manager
Ahmed is a field engineer, consultant and trainer specializing in entrepreneurship, home-based business and financial education. Ahmed began his professional career as a Program Coordinator at the local WES Center at the Association for the Continuity of Generations (ACG) in Sfax and was responsible for all tasks relevant to the operations of the Center. Due to his performance and skills, he was promoted to Program Manager and oversaw several projects at ACG that focused on youth capacity building, environmental governance and human rights, and managed the administrative and financial operations of the organization. This diverse experience gave him a cultural awareness and strong understanding of program planning and implementation, and the monitoring and evaluation process.

Habib Kachouri, Program Assistant, Tunisia
Habib joined the WES team in November 2016. Before joining WES, Habib worked as Project Manager at Business France at the French Embassy in Tunisia, with previous experience as Assistant Director at the Tunisian Production Company called Propaganda Production. Prior to this, Habib worked at a startup creating a database relating to the public transport network of Grand Tunis. Habib speaks French, English and Arabic, and intermediate Japanese, German and Spanish. Habib is also a pilot.

Julia Hendrickson, WES Director
Julia spent her childhood growing up in South Asia, where she developed a deep commitment to the advancement of women and girls. With over 17 years of international program management and evaluation experience, Julia has focused her work on women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, reproductive health, gender-based violence, and program evaluation. Since 2012, Julia has managed the Women’s Enterprise for Sustainability (WES) program, in close collaboration with partners and the WES team in Tunisia. Previously at IIE, Julia developed curriculum and contributed to overall strategic planning and program management for a global breast cancer awareness program. Julia has designed and led evaluations for several IIE programs, including Leadership Development for Mobilizing Reproductive Health (LDM), Emediat,Techwomen, and Toyota Education Initiatives in STEAM Innovation. Prior to joining IIE, Julia coordinated women’s political participation programs and regional projects to prevent gender-based violence at The Asia Foundation. Julia has traveled extensively in Asia, Africa and Europe. She has a B.A. in International Relations and Asian Studies from Tufts University, and an M.P.H. in International Health from Emory University. Julia speaks Swedish, Thai and basic Japanese and French.

Angela Makowski, Program Officer
Angela believes that the advancement of girls and women is the best way to create a more equal, secure and sustainable international community. Angela studied at Gonzaga University with a concentration in sustainable development in Africa and holds a BA in International Relations and French.
Angela joined WES in February 2016 as Program Coordinator. Prior to joining IIE, Angela worked at Room to Read, which specializes in youth literacy and girls’ education in Africa and Asia.
Angela is the Vice President of Education for Bay Masters at Toastmasters International and is an environmentalist who enjoys yoga, gardening, and hiking. Angela speaks English, French and elementary Spanish.
