“I’m a heritage speaker of Farsi, Farsi and Arabic…so I figured Arabic would be a good supplement to my Farsi skills, being able to travel the region, speak different languages, interact with many different countries and institutions. Being able to go into [Project GO], this intense nine-week language program, and come out and succeeding, builds your confidence in terms of what you want to do down the line. It made me want to seek out more opportunities, both while I’m still in ROTC and after I commission. I started looking at different career opportunities…what that’s led me to is now I’m currently looking at being a civil affairs officer or being a Foreign Affairs Officer down the line.” – Cadet Arman Karbassian, Army; 2024 Iris Burton Bulls Fellow“Learning Mandarin makes me very versatile in terms of language use. I can communicate with a very large portion of the world’s population. Having traveled internationally, I’ve seen how learning someone’s language and culture really breaks down barriers between people.” – Cadet Jaiden Huang, Air Force; 2024 Iris Burton Bulls Fellow“A program like this, the Iris Burton Bulls ROTC Fellowship gives you that opportunity to connect and bridge the language that you learn with international relations and also just general world geography and history that you might not have had before.” – Cadet Colby Woo, Air Force; 2024 Iris Burton Bulls Fellow
