IIE Announces Google DeepMind AI Master’s Scholarships
Scholarships Will Cover Tuition and Housing for Artificial Intelligence Students Worldwide
New York, NY, January 16, 2024 — The Institute of International Education (IIE) and Google DeepMind today announced the Google DeepMind AI Master’s Scholarships to significantly expand access to educational opportunities for students in the rapidly growing field of Artificial Intelligence. As the program’s new implementing partner, IIE will work with 13 Google DeepMind partner universities in 11 countries to administer the nomination operations, merit-based selection process, and award administration. These institutions have been selected by Google DeepMind for their leadership in AI education and commitment to building a diverse AI talent pipeline.
Each partner university will nominate at least one outstanding postgraduate newly admitted to a competitive AI and AI-adjacent master’s degree program. This year, the intention is to award scholarships to select students in Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, France, Greece, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Turkey, and Uganda. 2025 scholarships are also available to students at select institutions in the UK via a separate funding stream, as well as the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) AI for Science Masters Pan-African scholarships. Scholarship recipients will receive, among other benefits, a full scholarship covering up to two years of postgraduate degree study and a housing and living stipend.
“Investing in students from around the world who want to study and conduct research on artificial intelligence is critical to ensuring that its development will benefit communities worldwide. IIE is proud to administer the Google DeepMind Scholarship program. We look forward to working with Google DeepMind’s partner institutions worldwide to grow a strong AI talent pipeline representing the widest range of locations and life experiences,” said Allan E. Goodman, CEO of IIE.
IIE stewards more than 200 prestigious global scholarship and workforce development programs, including the Generation Google Scholarship. This agreement builds on IIE’s extensive program management portfolio and advances the organization’s commitment to promoting access to higher educational opportunities.
“At Google DeepMind, we believe that diversity is essential to ensure that AI can fulfill its promise to be a transformative technology with hugely positive impacts for the world. Through our collaboration with IIE on the Google DeepMind-funded Scholarships, we are continuing our commitment to making AI education and careers more accessible for students from historically marginalized communities,” said Obum Ekeke OBE, Head of Education Partnerships, Google DeepMind.
