ETS and Institute of International Education Strengthen Partnership with Expanded Access to TOEFL iBT® and GRE® Test Vouchers for Underserved Students, Refugees and Humanitarian Needs

PRINCETON, NJ and NEW YORK, November 19, 2024 — ETS, a global education and talent solutions company, and the Institute of International Education (IIE) have announced a renewed and expanded collaboration that will significantly enhance access to academic opportunities for students worldwide through TOEFL iBT® and GRE® test fee reduction vouchers. This strengthened partnership aims to provide essential support for underserved students, focusing on refugee populations and participants in IIE-supported programs that support underserved students around the globe. Through this effort, ETS and IIE will provide greater access to English language proficiency and graduate-level assessments, empowering the next generation of global leaders.

For the 2024-2025 testing year, ETS will provide IIE with 200 TOEFL iBT and GRE Test Fee Reduction Vouchers, along with 200 test preparation vouchers, to students who strive to pursue global education opportunities. Additionally, 100 fee reduction and test preparation vouchers for both TOEFL iBT and GRE tests will be allocated to students participating in Afghanistan and Ukraine to pursue higher education. These fee reduction vouchers reduce financial barriers for students and expand the reach of ETS’s philanthropic efforts. In a unique alignment with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, ETS will also route voucher distribution through IIE for Department of State programs and additional initiatives, amplifying the reach and impact of this collaboration.

Over the years, the partnership between ETS and IIE has supported students from diverse backgrounds, enabling their access to critical assessments and opening doors to educational and career advancement. “By removing financial and logistical barriers to education, we’re not just supporting students from underserved communities—we’re empowering future leaders and thinkers to share ideas and contribute to a global exchange that benefits everyone,” said Rohit Sharma, ETS SVP of Global Mobility Solutions. “This partnership between ETS and IIE is about creating opportunities that flow in all directions, building a world where talent and innovation know no boundaries.”

This latest agreement builds upon ETS’s ongoing support for humanitarian needs and represents an expansion of ETS’s mission to advance quality and equity in education. “IIE is honored to continue our strong partnership with ETS, which has empowered students around the world to access academic opportunities that were once out of reach,” said Jonah Kokodyniak, Executive Vice President, Program Development and Partner Services, IIE. “By providing these essential resources, we’re helping students achieve their academic dreams and develop skills that they can bring back to their communities, use to create positive change, and contribute to the global economy.”

One of the recipients of the TOEFL iBT voucher, a 24-year old from Tehran, Iran, shared their experience: “Pursuing a Ph.D. abroad has long been an unattainable dream of mine due to my family’s financial circumstances. Learning about the TOEFL iBT voucher was a beacon of hope.  IIE and ETS helped me pursue my studies abroad and I am determined to contribute positively to academia, both for my academic goals and as a milestone for my family as a first-generation graduate student.”
