2017 Best Practices Conference

The Institute of International Education will host the Annual Best Practices in Internationalization Conference at Florida International University in Miami, FL. Leading experts in the field and the winners of the 2017 Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education will present successful models and strategies for internationalizing the campus. The conference will focus on themes such as internationalization strategies, expanding participation in study abroad, and building international partnerships. There will be optional pre-conference roundtables and a networking reception held the day before the main conference on Monday, March 13, 2017.

• 4:15-5:30pm: Brainstorm Session: Best Practices in Advising International Students & Scholars from the MENA Region

As part of the IIE Best Practices Conference which will be hosted by Florida International University, we invite you to attend a special brainstorm session on March 13 at 4:15pm. This interactive session will explore how best to reassure/advise international students and scholars from Muslim-majority countries in the MENA region and beyond, who are currently on campus or applying to come. Topics will include: the need for special services or reassurance, what steps faculty and staff might be doing to respond, increased outreach to all internationals on campus, workshops on immigration matters, and intercultural sessions with domestic students. Case studies will be presented on what U.S. campuses are currently doing or could do to support/advise their students from the region who are seeking reassurance and the session will conclude with a discussion of best practices and remaining challenges. Attendance is free but RSVP is required; please confirm your participation by emailing info@iie.org before February 27.
