Middle East and North Africa
The Institute of International Education (IIE) delivers programs and works with global universities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, reaching over 7,000 students, scholars, and professionals. As a result of the Institute’s partnerships with corporations, governments, ministries, foundations, and the U.S. government, thousands of students, scholars, and professionals from the region have gained access to the world’s leading higher education and training programs.
Overview
Building on its extensive networks, experience, and programs around the globe, IIE has developed a strong set of services for the MENA region. IIE’s established office and Center for Leadership Excellence base is in Cairo, Egypt. Program offerings are diverse and serve a variety of development needs in the region. IIE is currently working on initiatives in a diversity of program areas in more than 13 countries in the region including Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Tunisia and Yemen.

Services
Scholarship Management
IIE specializes in the management of undergraduate and graduate scholarships for students. Scholarship programs focused on developing the MENA region include ExxonMobil Middle East and North Africa Scholars Program.
Scholar and Professional Exchange
IIE matches highly talented scholars from diverse academic fields with competitive universities abroad, convenes scholars to conduct collaborative research to address issues of higher education reform, and helps private sector sponsors identify potential leaders for short or long-term study at the world’s leading universities.
Leadership Development
The Center for Leadership Excellence in Cairo designs and implements programs to provide individuals from the public and private sectors with outstanding, innovative leadership training. Turnkey initiatives include the Discovery Program, the Youth Enrichment for Leadership Learning and Action (YELLA) program, the USAID Peace Scholarships Program, and the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program for Egyptian Women.
Institutional Capacity Building
IIE can organize high level meetings and provide access to critical research regarding policy and inter-cultural exchange as well as convene “Best Practices” conferences and forums to provide MENA region university stakeholders with recommendations about strategic approaches to institutional development.
