Artist Protection Fund
In recent years, reports of censorship, imprisonment, and even the killing of artists by political and religious groups have dramatically escalated. The reason for this is clear. Artists have always been the essential voice for their community and culture. They reflect and shape societies through their creative lens. They explore fundamental truths, challenge the status quo, brave controversy, and satirize the powerful.
Since the program began in 2015 with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, IIE’s Artist Protection Fund has placed 90 artists from 29 different countries in safe, productive, and welcoming environments.
The IIE Artist Protection Fund is the only global program that provides fellowship funding, placement, mentoring, and inclusion in a comprehensive network of artistic and social support. The artists represent all disciplines including choreographers, composers, filmmakers, interdisciplinary artists, musicians, performance and theater artists, visual artists, and writers.
Help ensure the voices of artists under threat are heard, amplified, and shared with the world.
