Between Two Worlds: A New Podcast Series
Between 2001 and 2013, the Ford Foundation’s International Fellowships Program (IFP) supported graduate or postgraduate-level education for 4,305 emerging social justice leaders from 22 countries. Selected participants came from marginalized communities and had to demonstrate a commitment to social justice and community leadership. The Ford Foundation provided $417 million in funding resources for IFP, the single largest program commitment in its history at that time.
From 2013-2023, IIE’s Research, Evaluation, and Learning Unit led a Tracking Study of the impact IFP has had on its alumni and the communities around them.
This podcast series, Between Two Worlds, focused on IFP alumni living outside their country of origin—approximately 13% of the global IFP Alumni population. We profiled this small but powerful cohort of global citizens —and shared new data that explored why they didn’t return home after the fellowship, how they stayed deeply connected to their communities at home, and what motivated them to continue working for social justice long after their fellowships ended.
Between Two Worlds was hosted by IFP Alumni Tracking Study team members Bridget Barry and Nora Nemeth.
