Tigist Abera was among the first round of participants in the Ethiopian Women’s Leadership Program. She was in her fourth year at the Addis Ababa University Law department when she applied to the program.
While participating in the EWLP program, Tigist represented the Addis Ababa University (AAU) Law School at the Third Moot Arbitration Competition. This is a prestigious competition conducted by the Ethiopian Arbitration and Counciliation Center (EACC). Her nine month training with the EWLP program paid off since, on behalf of her University, she won first place in this prestigious national competition.
“I am proud that my university stood first among ten other universities in the competition.”
The competition presented real time legal cases with formal court proceedings testing participants’ academic abilities and soft skills. It could not have been better timed for Tigist as it gave her the chance to exercise the leadership and presentation skills she acquired from the EWLP program. At the end of the competition, she stood proudly as she received the ‘Best Oralist’ prize for her great presentation.
“I have gotten motivation and courage after taking leadership training with you. It can also be one of your achievements. I have contributed something to my law school because of you. I would like to say thank you again!!! “
