IIE Elects Cathy Martine and Mahboob Mahmood to its Board of Trustees

NEW YORK, July 19, 2016—The Institute of International Education welcomes Cathy Martine and Mahboob Mahmood to its Board of Trustees. IIE is the world leader in designing strategies and implementing programs that advance scholarship, promote access and build economies. IIE manages programs of study and training for students, educators, young professionals and trainees from all sectors with funding from government agencies, foundations, and corporations around the world, including the flagship Fulbright Program and Gilman Scholarships for the U.S. Department of State.

An independent not-for-profit organization founded in 1919, IIE is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees who bring a diverse set of skills from leadership positions in colleges and universities, financial institutions, government agencies and organizations.

Cathy Martine is President, National Business, AT&T Business Solutions & International, leading one of AT&T’s largest business units, serving approximately 95% of AT&T’s business customers in the U.S. with mobility and highly secure cloud solutions. Ms. Martine leads over 7,000 associates in her organization, and is responsible for direct and indirect sales as well as the distribution of business solutions for customers ranging from start-ups to Fortune 1,000 enterprise companies.

Ms. Martine has extensive experience leading multiple business units across AT&T including Wholesale Markets, National Mass Markets, and Global Markets and Operations based outside the U.S. Prior to her current role, Cathy was Executive Vice President leading AT&T’s Small Business Solutions & Alternate Channels organization, President and CEO of the Midwest and East Regions and Senior Vice President, AT&T Internet Telephony.

Cathy holds a B.A. in Economics from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, NY (summa cum laude). She also holds a M.S. from M.I.T., where she was a Sloan Fellow. In addition, she holds an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business.

Mahboob Mahmood is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Knowledge Platform. Established in 2000, Knowledge Platform is a leading Asian learning solutions company, with a presence in Singapore, China, India and Pakistan, and partners in the Philippines and Thailand. Knowledge Platform provides high impact, 'next-generation' learning solutions for the educational and corporate sector. Mr. Mahmood regularly speaks on, and designs solutions for, digital and blended learning, innovation and change management in education, teacher training, and learning content and technology development.

Between 2005 and 2011, Mr. Mahmood also served as Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise at INSEAD. Prior to establishing Knowledge Platform, he was a partner at the international law firm of Sidley Austin, where he handled corporate transactions in New York and Singapore for over fifteen years.

Mr. Mahmood received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1986, Diploma in International and Comparative Law from Columbia University School of Law in 1986, M.A. in Political Science from The Johns Hopkins University in 1987, and B.A. in Politics from Princeton University in 1981. He has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1987.
