The WIT Yemen program, sponsored by the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), and managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in partnership with SOUL for the Development of Women and Children and the General Telecommunications Institute (GTI), Cisco Academy, empowers Yemeni women to actively participate in the development of their society. WIT Yemen builds women’s capacity by:

  • Conducting professional development workshops
  • Offering community outreach and mentoring activities
  • Establishing Yemen’s first Women’s IT Association

Over 450 women applied for 150 scholarships to attend the Cisco Networking Academy at GTI, and 500 applied for 250 spots in the Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) course offered at SOUL. Classes begin on March 19th and the program will run through March 2007. Graduates of the WIT Yemen program will be prepared to employ their new skills and become role models for other women and girls in their communities.
