IIE Hosts National Conference Call for IIENetwork Members on U.S.-Brazil Higher Education Partnership

Listen to a recording of the call

On June 30, 2011, IIE hosted a national conference call with nearly 80 U.S. higher education institutions on the "U.S.-Brazil Higher Education Partnership: New Strategies for Engaging with Brazil to Promote Educational Exchanges." The call, hosted by IIE's President and CEO Allan E. Goodman, featured Ms. Alina Romanowski, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State and the Directors for International Affairs of the Coordinating Office for the Advancement of Higher Education (CAPES) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

The IIENetwork National Conference Call focused specifically on the Brazilian government's new "Science without Borders" initiative, which will provide 75,000 scholarships over the next three years to Brazilian students in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The Brazilian Government plans to provide grants to approximately 500 Brazilian undergraduate students to participate in sandwich programs at U.S. higher education institutions, beginning in January 2012.
