Each year, IIE helps kick off International Education Week by holding the Open Doors Briefing at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The Open Doors project is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.

IIE held its 10th annual Open Doors Briefing on November 16, 2009, at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, to release the findings of the 2009 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange. It was attended by more than 150 international education professionals, members the press, and representatives from various nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
