Steven Dorsey brings nearly 30 years of experience in international development to his new appointment as Vice President of International Development and Operations at IIE/Washington, DC. Most recently, Steven served as the Country Director for the U.S. Peace Corps in Costa Rica from June 2009-June 2013. Prior to that appointment he did independent consulting for Chemonics in Indonesia, assessing the education and health sectors in anticipation of forthcoming USAID procurements. He served as Vice-President and Director of Capture Management (new business development) for SiloSmashers, Inc., a DC-based program management and peak performance consulting firm. He worked for Project HOPE, an international health nonprofit headquartered in northern Virginia, as Regional Director of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Steven worked for nearly 15 years for the Academy for Educational Development, directing USAID and UN projects in education, with a special focus on educational and learning technologies and girls’ education. He also trained health volunteers for the Humanitarian Services unit of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was part of a four person technical team directing a health services project.
Steven has lived abroad in Spain, Nigeria, Guatemala, Djibouti, and Costa Rica, and has worked in over 40 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East. He speaks Spanish and French, and has a M.A. in International Relations from Brigham Young University.
