What Is YLDA?

The Young Leaders Dialogue with America, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), provides opportunities for strategic learning and exchange between emerging leaders of Central Europe and the Baltic States and their U.S. counterparts on issues of critical mutual concern.

What Are The Objectives?

The objectives of the Young Leaders Dialogue with America program are to:

  1. Increase participant knowledge and understanding of common transatlantic issues through dialogue with American and European peers, experts, and thought-leaders.
  2. Promote strong trans-Atlantic leadership through collaboration and partnerships based on mutual respect and understanding.
  3. Create lasting linkages among participants.
  4. Facilitate the development of collaborative group projects to be implemented by participants.
  5. Increase understanding of the United States and its people.

What Are The Dialogue Themes?

Based on professional experience and areas of expertise, each young leader is assigned to one of three program “dialogue” groups based on topics essential to building strong political and economic relations between the United States and Europe. Those include: New Challenges in Transatlantic Security, Climate Change and Environmental Issues, and Tolerance and Diversity.
