Program Specifics

IIE youth leadership programs expose students to different leadership approaches; provide space for the students to explore their values, visions, diversity, and personality styles; and build critical skill sets such as team work, communication, creativity, networking, and project planning. Students experience leadership through interaction with community leaders and service learning opportunities.

Representative programs include:

Student Leadership Discovery Program

Launched in October 2006, Discovery is an independent, semester-long, extracurricular program of leadership learning activities designed by IIE for public university students in Egypt. Discovery is currently in its sixth full semester iteration with over 150 alumni who are assuming larger leadership roles through university clubs, local NGOs, and employment opportunities.

YELLA - Youth Enrichment for Leadership Learning and Action Program

The YELLA Program provides preparatory and secondary schools, youth centers, and university career centers – both private and public – a curriculum of leadership learning lessons and resources that builds their capacity to deliver youth leadership programming in the future. YELLA is empowering the participating students and educators to think about leadership in new ways, to take initiative with responsibility for their own actions, and to actively volunteer in their communities.

USAID Peace Scholarships Program

Administered in partnership with World Learning for USAID, Arab students from eight countries in the region participate in leadership institutes through IIE Centers in Cairo and Denver and attend U.S. universities for one year of academic study and experience America activities.

Junior Professional Leadership Programs

IIE works in partnership with corporations and foundations in the MENA region to support their young professional and talent development programs. IIE designs innovative and experiential learning modules to build key workforce skills with emphasis on team dynamics and communications.
