Principals Training Program (PTP)

Program Description:

Principals Training Program (PTP) will select 30 Bulgarian high school principals from America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) partner schools for a week long education leadership seminar in Bulgaria. Furthermore, from among the seminar participants, IIE will select 10 finalists who will participate in a customized 10-day leadership and professional development experiential program in the U.S.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be Bulgarian citizens who currently work and reside in Bulgaria.
  • Applicants must be principals at state or municipal schools.
  • Applicants must be interested in learning and applying an innovative school leadership approach, as well as in incorporating technology and new pedagogical practices in the classroom.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a track record of intellectual curiosity, striving for excellence in the classroom and be committed to pedagogical innovation.

IMPORTANT: Selected participants must provide proof that they continue to be employed as principals at state or municipal schools during the school year in which the PTP will take place. If selected participants fail to prove their status as state or municipal teachers, they will forfeit their place in the program and will not be able to participate.

Program Benefits

Bulgarian Seminar
The 30 selected principals will participate in a week long professional development seminar in Bulgaria. The seminar will cover the following:

  • Accommodations
  • Meals
  • Translation in Bulgarian
  • Training manuals and education materials

Post – Seminar Presentation Commitment
Upon the completion of the seminar, the 30 principals will organize and facilitate two public presentations in front of an audience of fellow educators. The presentations will focus on lessons learned from seminar---in particular, the principals should address how they plan to incorporate the newly acquired knowledge in their schools.

NYC Study Tour Component
From among the 30 Bulgarian seminar participants, 10 finalists will be selected to participate in a ten day professional study tour in New York City (NYC). During their study tour, the 10 Bulgarian principals will visit NYC schools and observe and network with American principals. Here is what is covered:

  • Transportation to and from USA
  • Hotel accommodations
  • Transportation
  • Group meals
  • Per diem allowance
  • Insurance
  • Translation in Bulgarian
  • Training manuals and education materials

Post-NYC Study Tour Presentation Commitment
Upon returning to Bulgaria, the 10 principals will organize and facilitate two presentations about lessons learned from their study tours, and about how they plan to incorporate the newly acquired knowledge in their schools.
