Last Day in Myanmar: The Momentum of Reform

By: Dr. Allan E. Goodman on Friday, March 1, 2013

Our delegation concluded with the drafting of a work-in-progress framework agreement to help codify what we and the various education, health, and science ministry officials encouraged us to do and share. It appears below and we will focus now on next steps to follow through. We all recognized the importance of keeping the momentum of reform accelerating.

Our delegation visited eight universities in three cities and the participants lectured to over 1,000 faculty and. students. We covered such topics as finding and making strategic partnerships, faculty development, and accreditation processes and procedures. There were many questions, too, about what we heard from the officials with whom we met. So many officials and academicians with whom we met called our visit historic. We also now hope to make history by what we can do next in the cause of expanding and improving relations between our people and countries.

IIE’s President and CEO Dr. Allan Goodman is currently in Myanmar leading a partnership focused delegation through IAPP. While in Myanmar, the IIE-led delegation will hold public workshops at a number of universities in Yangon and Mandalay open to anyone interested in learning from the U.S. representatives as they lecture on topics such as accreditation, quality assurance, faculty development, student learning, partnerships and other critical subjects.
