Fact Sheets by U.S. State

In this section you will find fact sheets with quick information by U.S. state with information on both international students coming to the U.S. and U.S. students studying abroad.

The U.S. State Fact sheets contain statistical information on international exchange in each state. Each State Fact Sheet includes statistics regarding:

  • International students studying in the United States—the total number; the leading institutions where they are enrolled; their leading places of origin from the Open Doors report; and the total number of Fulbright recipients.
  • U.S. students studying abroad —the total number of U.S. students studying abroad from the Open Doors report, and total number of Fulbright and Gilman recipients.
  • The economic impact of international students in each state—The economic impact of international students in each state—produced by NAFSA: Association of International Educators—based on enrollment data from the Institute of International Education's Open Doors report, tuition and living expense figures, which are used to calculate the total amount of economic benefit, from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center of Educational Statistics Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)  – and analysis of the data by Jason Baumgartner at Indiana University – Bloomington's Office of International Services.
